Through nature, cause, fruition,<br>Function, endowment, manifestation,<br>And its permanence and inconceivability,<br>The buddhabhūmi is determined. +
For the pleasurable touch of samādhi’s being relished,<br>And for the principle that is profound by nature being realized,<br>The Tathāgata, being the ultimate depth of very subtle thinking,<br>Is free from [being] a cause, just as space. +
In brief, the function of the two wisdoms<br>Is to be understood as this—<br>The perfection of the [vi]muktikāya<br>And the purification of the dharmakāya. +
The vimukti[kāya] and the dharmakāya<br>Are to be understood in two ways[425] and in one way—<br>As being uncontaminated, as being all-pervasive,<br>And as being the unconditioned matrix. +
[The vimuktikāya] is uncontaminated because of the cessation<br>Of the afflictions together with their latent tendencies.<br>Wisdom is held to be all-pervasive<br>Because it is without attachment and without obstruction. +
Being unconditioned is due to having<br>The nature of being absolutely indestructible.<br>This character of indestructibility is the brief statement<br>That is explained by "everlasting" and so on. +
Destructibility is to be understood as four kinds<br>By virtue of the opposites of "everlasting" and so on,<br>Which are putridity, sickness, extinction,<br>And death in an inconceivable manner. +
Since it lacks these, it is to be understood as<br>Everlasting, peaceful, eternal, and imperishable.<br>This stainless wisdom is the matrix<br>Because it is the foundation of [all] pure attributes. +
Just as space, which is not a cause,<br>Is the cause for forms, sounds, smells,<br>Tastes, tangible objects, and phenomena<br>Being seen, heard, and so on, +
Likewise, on account of being unobscured,<br>The two kāyas are the cause<br>For the arising of uncontaminated qualities<br>Within the objects of the sense faculties of the wise. +
Buddhahood is inconceivable, permanent, everlasting, quiescent, eternal,<br>Peaceful, all-pervasive, and free from conception, just like space.<br>It is everywhere without attachment and obstruction, free from harsh sensations,<br>Invisible, ungraspable, splendid, and stainless. +
Buddhahood, spoken of as being luminous by nature [but] having been obscured by the massive web<br>Of the thick clouds of adventitious afflictive and cognitive [obscurations], just as the sun and the sky,<br>Is endowed with all the stainless buddha qualities and is permanent, everlasting, and eternal.<br>It is attained based on the wisdom that is nonconceptual about [all] phenomena and discriminates them. +
One’s own welfare and that of others is taught<br>Through the vimukti[kāya] and the dharmakāya.<br>This foundation of one’s own welfare and that of others<br>Is endowed with the qualities such as being inconceivable. +
Buddhahood is the object of omniscient wisdom [alone].<br>Since it is not the object of the three wisdoms,<br>It is to be understood as being inconceivable<br>[Even] by people with wisdom. +
Since it is subtle, it is not an object of study.<br>Since it is the ultimate, it is not [an object] of reflection.<br>Since it is the depth of the nature of phenomena,<br>It is not [an object] of worldly meditation and so forth. +
For naive beings have never seen it before,<br>Just as those born blind [have never seen] form.<br>Even noble ones [see it only] as an infant [would glimpse]<br>The orb of the sun while lying in the house of a new mother. +
It is permanent because it is free from arising.<br>It is everlasting since it is free from ceasing.<br>It is quiescent because it is without duality.<br>It is eternal since the nature of phenomena [always] remains. +
It is peaceful because it is the reality of cessation.<br>It is all-pervasive since it realizes everything.<br>It is nonconceptual because it is nonabiding.<br>It is without attachment since the afflictions are relinquished. +
It is everywhere without obstruction<br>Because it is pure of all cognitive obscurations.<br>It is free from harsh sensations<br>Since it is a state of gentleness and workability. +
It is invisible because it has no form.<br>It is ungraspable since it has no characteristics.<br>It is splendid because it is pure by nature.<br>It is stainless because the stains are eliminated. +
