tadāvṛtiraparyantakleśopakleśavāsanāḥ<br>karuṇā tatsamudghātapratyayaḥ sārvakālikaḥ +
iha śubhamaṇiprāptir yadvaj jagaty atidurlabhā jalanidhigataṃ pātālasthaṃ yataḥ spṛhayanti tam<br>an sulabham iti jñeyaṃ tadvaj jagaty atidurbhage manasi vividhakleśagras te tathāgatadarśanam +
Just as it is very hard in this world here to obtain a pure gem,<br>Be it located in the ocean or resting below the earth, which makes [people] yearn for it,<br>So the sight of a tathāgata should be understood as something not easily found<br>In the minds of very unsuitable beings who are in the grip of all kinds of afflictions. +
pratiśrutkārutaṃ yadvat paravijñaptisaṃbhavam<br>nirvikalpam anābhogaṃ nādhyātmaṃ na bahiḥ sthitam +
Just as the sound of an echo<br>Arises in the cognizance of others,<br>Is without thought, effortless,<br>And abides neither inside nor outside, +
tathāgatarutaṃ tadvat paravijñaptisaṃbhavam<br>nirvikalpam anābhogaṃ nādhyātmaṃ na bahiḥ sthitam +
So the voice of the Tathāgata <br>Arises in the cognizance of others,<br>Is without thought, effortless,<br>And abides neither inside nor outside. +
niṣkiṃcane nirābhāse nirālambe nirāśraye<br>cakṣuṣpathavyatikrānte'pyarūpiṇyanidarśane +
Though it is insubstantial, without appearance,<br>Without support, without basis,<br>Beyond the pathway of the eyes,<br>Formless, and indemonstrable, +
yathā nimnonnataṃ vyomni dṛśyate na ca tattathā<br>buddheṣvapi tathā sarva dṛśyate na ca tattathā +
Highs and lows are seen in space,<br>But it is not like that at all.<br>Likewise, everything can be seen in the buddhas,<br>But they are not like that at all. +
sarve mahīruhā yadvadavikalpāṃ vasuṃdharām<br>niśritya vṛddhiṃ vairūḍhiṃ vaipulyamupayānti ca +
Just as all that grows on the earth<br>Comes to grow, thrive, and expand<br>Through relying on the ground<br>That is without thoughts, +
So the roots of virtue of beings<br>Come to grow without exception<br>By relying on the earth of a perfect buddha<br>Who is without thoughts. +
saṃbuddhapṛthivīmevamavikalpāmaśeṣataḥ<br>jagatkuśalamūlāni vṛddhimāśritya yānti hi +
na prayatnamṛte keściddṛṣṭaḥ kurvan kriyāmataḥ<br>vineyasaṃśayacchittyai navadhoktaṃ nidarśanam +
Since some do not see that activity<br>Can be performed without effort,<br>The nine kinds of examples were given<br>In order to eliminate the doubts of those to be guided. +
The purpose of this is elucidated<br>By the very name of the sūtra<br>In which these nine examples<br>Are explained in detail. +
sūtrasya tasya nāmnaiva dipitaṃ tatprayojanam<br>yatraite nava dṛṣṭāntā vistareṇa prakāśitāḥ +
etacchratamayodārajñānālokādyalaṃkṛtāḥ<br>dhīmanto'vatarantyāśu sakalaṃ buddhagocaram +
