It is similar to the maṇḍala of the earth,<br>Since it is the foundation that serves as<br>The support for the fulfillment of all mundane<br>And supramundane virtues of beings without exception.  +
buddhānāṃ bodhimāgamya lokottarapathodayāt<br>śuklakarmapathadhyānāpramāṇārūpyasaṃbhava iti  +
Since the supramundane path arises<br>On the basis of the awakening of the buddhas,<br>The path of virtuous actions, the dhyānas,<br>The immeasurables, and the formless [absorptions] originate.  +
The buddha element, buddha awakening,<br>The buddha attributes, and buddha activity,<br>Being the sphere of the guides [alone],<br>Are inconceivable even for pure sentient beings.  +
buddhadhāturbuddhabodhirbuddhadharmā buddhakṛtyam<br>gocaro'yaṃ nāyakānāṃ śuddhasattvairapyacintyaḥ  +
chandavīryasmṛtidhyānaprajñādiguṇabhājanam<br>bodhicittaṃ bhavatyasya satataṃ pratyapasthitam  +
Thereby, bodhicitta as the receptacle<br>Of qualities such as confidence, vigor,<br>Mindfulness, dhyāna, and prajñā<br>Is present in them at all times.  +
taccittapratyupasthānādavivartyo jinātmajaḥ<br>puṇyapāramitāpūripariśuddhiṃ nigacchati  +
Since that [bodhicitta] is always present,<br>The children of the victors are irreversible<br>And reach the completion<br>And purity of the pāramitā of merit.  +
puṇyaṃ pāramitāḥ pañca tredhā tadavikalpanāt<br>tatpūriḥ pariśuddhistu tad vipakṣaprahāṇataḥ  +
Merit refers to the [first] five pāramitās,<br>Its completion is due to being nonconceptual<br>About the three aspects, and its purity<br>Is by virtue of the relinquishment of its antagonistic factors.  +
Generosity is the merit that arises from giving,<br>Discipline is declared to arise from discipline,<br>The pair of patience and dhyāna arises<br>From meditation, and vigor is present in all.  +
dānaṃ dānamayaṃ puṇyaṃ śīlaṃ śīlamayaṃ smṛtam<br>dve bhāvanāmayaṃ kṣāntidhyāne vīryaṃ tu sarvagam  +
trimaṇḍalavikalpo yastajjñeyāvaraṇaṃ matam<br>mātsaryādivipakṣo yastat kleśāvaraṇaṃ matam  +
Conceptions in terms of the three spheres<br>Are asserted as the cognitive obscurations.<br>Antagonistic factors such as envy<br>Are held to be the afflictive obscurations.  +
Without prajñā, the other [pāramitās] do not represent<br>The causes for relinquishing these [obscurations].<br>Therefore, prajñā is the highest one, and its root<br>Is study, so study is supreme [too].  +
etatprahāṇahetuśca nānyaḥ prajñāmṛte tataḥ<br>śreṣṭhā prajñā śrutaṃ cāsya mūlaṃ tasmācchrutaṃ param  +
Thus, on the basis of trustworthy scriptures and reasoning,<br>I expounded this [treatise] in order to purify just myself<br>And also for the sake of supporting those who are endowed<br>With intelligence, faith, and fulfillment of virtue.  +
itīdamāptāgamayuktisaṃśrayā-<br>dudāhṛtaṃ kevalamātmaśuddhaye<br>dhiyādhimuktyā kuśalopasaṃpadā<br>samanvitā ye tadanugrahāya ca  +
Just as those with eyes [can] see in dependence on<br>A lamp, lightning, a jewel, the moon, and the sun,<br>So I expounded this [treatise] in dependence on the sage<br>Who is the sun that illuminates the dharma of great meaning.  +
