With him gone to another country,<br>Due to his absence, the painting<br>Would not be completed in all its parts—<br>Such is the example that is given. +
The painters that appear in such a way<br>Are said to be generosity, discipline, patience, and so on,<br>While the emptiness endowed with<br>All supreme aspects is the painting. +
Since prajñā, wisdom, and liberation<br>Are illuminating, pervasive, pure,<br>And not different, they resemble<br>The light, the rays, and the orb of the sun. +
Therefore, without attaining buddhahood,<br>Nirvāṇa is not attained,<br>Just as it is impossible to see the sun<br>After its light and its rays are removed. +
The presentation of the heart of the victors<br>Has been discussed in this way in ten aspects.<br>Now, its being enclosed by the cocoon of the afflictions<br>Should be understood through examples. +
A buddha in a decaying lotus, honey amid bees,<br>Kernels in their husks, gold in filth,<br>A treasure in the earth, a sprout and so on from a small fruit,<br>An image of the victor in a tattered garment, +
Royalty in the womb of a destitute woman,<br>And a precious statue in clay—just as these exist,<br>This basic element dwells in sentient beings<br>Obscured by the adventitious stains of the afflictions. +
The stains resemble the lotus, the insects, the husks, the filth, the earth, the peel of a fruit,<br>The foul-smelling garment, the body of a lowly woman, and the element of earth heated in a fire.<br>The supreme basic element has the stainless appearance of the buddha, the honey, the kernels, the gold, the treasure,<br>The nyagrodha tree, the precious image, the supreme lord of the world, and the precious statue. +
Suppose a man with the stainless divine eye were to see<br>A tathāgata shining with a thousand marks,<br>Dwelling enclosed in a fading lotus,<br>And thus would free him from the sheath of the lotus petals. +
[Buddhahood] is purity, attainment, freedom,<br>One’s own welfare and that of others, the foundation of this,<br>And profundity, vastness, and magnanimity<br>For as long as time lasts and in accordance [with beings]. +
The purity of the adventitious afflictions, such as desire,<br>Which is like the water in a pond and so on,<br>In brief, is said to be the fruition<br>Of nonconceptual wisdom. +
The seeing of the buddha state<br>That is endowed with all supreme aspects<br>Is explained to be the fruition of the wisdom<br>That is attained subsequent to that. +
[Buddhahood] is like a pond with very clear water<br>Because it has eliminated the turbidity of the silt of desire<br>And because it sprinkles the water of dhyāna<br>Upon those to be guided, who resemble lotuses. +
It resembles the stainless full moon<br>Because it has been released from Rāhu-like hatred<br>And because it pervades the world<br>With its rays of great love and compassion. +
This buddhahood is similar to the sun without stains<br>Because it is liberated from the clouds of ignorance<br>And because it dispels the darkness<br>In the world with its rays of wisdom. +
Because it has the nature of being equal to the unequaled,<br>Because it bestows the taste of the genuine dharma,<br>And because it is free from what is useless,<br>It is like the Sugata, honey, and a kernel. +
Because it is pure, because it has ended poverty<br>By virtue of its substance’s consisting of qualities,<br>And because it grants the fruit of liberation,<br>It is like gold, a treasure, and a tree. +
Because its body consists of the jewel of the dharma,<br>Because it is the supreme lord of human beings,<br>And because it has the appearance of a precious form,<br>It is like a precious [representation], a king, and an image. +
Being the uncontaminated all-pervasive matrix of indestructible nature<br>That is everlasting, peaceful, eternal, and imperishable,<br>Tathāgatahood, just as space, is the cause<br>For the wise experiencing the objects of the six sense faculties. +
[Though] always serving as the cause for his powerful form and objects<br>Being seen, for his perfect and pure discourses’ being heard,<br>For the pure discipline of the tathāgatas being smelled,<br>For the supreme flavor of the great and noble genuine dharma’s being tasted, +
