c. 450 BCE

མདོ་སྡེ་རྒྱ་ཆེ་རོལ་པ་ལྟར་ན། སྟོན་པས་ཡང་དག་པར་རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་གོ་འཕང་ཐོབ་ནས། ཟབ་ཞི་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་འོད་གསལ་འདུས་མ་བྱས། །བདུད་རྩི་ལྟ་བུའི་ཆོས་ཞིག་ཁོ་བོས་བརྙེས། །ཞེས་སོགས་གསུངས་པར་འདོད། According to The Play in Full, the Buddha is said to have reached perfect state of the enlightenment and declared: "I have discovered the profound, peaceful, luminous, unconditioned nectar-like nature, which is free conceptual fabrications."

By 400 BCE

ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་རྗེས་འབྲངས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་བསྟན་པའི་མདོ་རྣམས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པས་བཀའ་འཁོར་ལོ་མཐའ་མའི་གྲལ་དུ་དུས་རབས་ ༥ ་པ་ཙམ་ལ་གསུངས་པར་འདོད། The adherents of the Mahāyāna tradition believe that the historical Buddha Śākyamuni taught the sūtras containing buddha-nature teachings as part of the third turning of the wheel in about the 5th century BCE.

By 100 BCE

ཨཾགུཏྟ་ར་ནི་ཀཱ་ཡ་ནས་ སེམས་ཀྱི་རང་བཞིན་འོད་གསལ་བ་གསུངས་ཡོད། The Aṅguttaranikāya (translated as "Gradual Collection" or "Numerical Discourses"), the fourth of the five Nikāyas, or collections, in the Sutta Piṭaka, mentions the luminous nature of the mind.

By 100 BCE

ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་བརྒྱད་སྟོང་པ་ནས་སེམས་ཀྱི་རང་བཞིན་འོད་གསལ་བ་གསུངས། The Aṣṭasahāsrikāprajñāpāramitāsūtra states that the mind is luminous by nature.

c.100 CE

མཁས་པ་མའི་ཁེལ་ར་དིཤ་ནས་དུས་རབས་ ༢ ་པར་བྱུང་བར་འདོད་པའི་མྱ་ངན་ལས་འདས་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདོ་ལས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་གསུངས་ཤིང་དེ་ལ་བདག་གི་ཐ་སྙད་སྦྱར་བ་བྱུང་། The Mahāparinirvāṇasūtra (which Michael Radich dates as early as the 2nd century) mentions tathāgathagarbha and uses the term ātman to describe buddha-nature.

c. 200 CE

མཁས་པ་མའི་ཁེལ་ཟི་མར་མན་ལྟར་ན། དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་མདོ་དང་། གཤེགས་སྙིང་བསྟན་པའི་མདོ་གཞན་རྣམས་ཀྱང་དར་ཞིང་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཁམས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་ཐ་སྙད་རྒྱ་ཆེར་སྤེལ། The Tathāgatagarbhasūtra (as dated by Michael Zimmermann) and other scriptures later considered as sūtras teaching tathāgathagarbha were circulating and promoting the concept of buddha-nature.

c. 200 CE

སློབ་དཔོན་ཀླུ་སྒྲུབ་ནས་ཆོས་དབྱིངས་བསྟོད་པ་སོགས་བསྟོད་ཚོགས་བརྩམས་ནས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་རིགས་འཁོར་འདས་ཀྱི་གཞི་ཡིན་པ་དང་ཁམས་དང་འོད་གསལ་བའི་སེམས་སོགས་ཐ་སྙད་བྱུང་ཞིང་། སྟོང་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་ཁམས་དེ་མི་བཀག་པར་གསུངས། Nāgārjuna composes the Dharmadhātustava and other hymnic writings and praises the sphere of reality as the basis of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa. He calls it "the element" and "luminous mind" and claims emptiness does not negate this nature.

c. 300 CE

དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་མདོ་རྒྱ་ནག་སྐད་དུ་འགྱུར། སྒྱུར་མཁན་ཕ་ཇུ་ཡིན་པར་སྣང་། The Tathāgatagarbhasūtra is translated into Chinese, perhaps by Faju.

c. 320 CE

ལྷ་མོ་དཔལ་ཕྲེང་གིས་ཞུས་པའི་མདོ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་བསྟན་པའི་མདོའི་ནང་ནས་ཕལ་ཆེར་དར་ཁྱབ་ཆེར་འགྱུར་ཡོད་པ་དེ་ཉིད། སེང་ཕ་ནིས་རྒྱ་ནག་གི་སྐད་ལ་འགྱུར་བས་བཤད། བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་གློ་བུར་ཉོན་མོངས་པས་སྟོང་ཡང་རྣམ་དབྱེར་མེད་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་གྱིས་མི་སྟོང་པར་གསུངས། The Śrīmālādevīsiṃhanādanirdeśa (which may have been circulating as one of the most influential sūtras on buddha-nature) is said to have been translated into Chinese by Seng Fani. It claims buddha-nature "is empty of adventitious stains but not empty of its limitless inseparable qualities."

By 400 CE

རྔ་བོ་ཆེའི་མདོ་ཡོན་ཏན་བཟང་པོས་རྒྱ་ནག་སྐད་དུ་གྱུར་བ་དེ་ཡིས། དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་ལ་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཐ་སྙད་བཏགས་པ་དང་། ཇོ་ན་ཐན་སིལ་ཀི་ནས་དུས་རབས་ ༥ ་པའི་སྔོན་དུ་བྱུང་བར་འདོད་པའི་འཕེལ་བ་དང་འགྲིབ་པ་མེད་པའི་མདོ་ལས་སེམས་ཅན་བྱང་སེམས་དང་སངས་རྒྱས་ལ་མ་དག་པ་དང་། མ་དག་དག་པ་དང་། ཤིན་ཏུ་དག་པའི་གནས་སྐབས་གསུམ་དུ་སྦྱར་ནས་གསུངས། The Mahābherīsūtra (which was translated into Chinese by Guṇabhadra) equates buddha-nature with the dharmakāya. The Anūnatvāpūrṇatvanirdeśaparivarta (which Jonathan Silk dates to at least before the early 5th century) mentions how sentient beings, bodhisattvas, and buddhas are three phases of the buddha-nature being impure, partially obscured, and fully pure.

c. 417 CE

མྱ་ངན་ལས་འདས་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདོ་རྒྱ་ནག་གི་སྐད་དུ་བསྒྱུར། Buddhabhadra and Faxian translate the Mahāparinirvāṇasūtra into Chinese.

By 433 CE

དགེ་རྒན་ཏ་ཀ་ས་ཀི་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་རིགས་རྣམ་པར་འབྱེད་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་ཡོངས་གྲགས་བྱམས་པས་མཛད་པར་གྲགས་པ་དེ་བརྩམས་པ་དང་། རྒྱ་ནག་གི་ཁུངས་རྣམས་སུ་སྙིང་པོ་བློ་གྲོས་ཀྱིས་མཛད་པར་གྲགས། According to Takasaki, the Ratnagotravibhāga, which Central Asian and Tibetan sources attribute to Maitreya and Chinese sources attribute to Sāramati, is composed.

c. 500 CE

དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་རིགས་རྣམ་པར་འབྱེད་པའམ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་འགྱུར་མཁན་རིན་ཆེན་བློ་གྲོས་རྒྱ་ནག་ལ་ཕེབས། Ratnamati, who translated the Ratnagotravibhāga into Chinese, travels to China.

c. 550 CE

དོན་དམ་པས་རྟ་དབྱངས་ཀྱིས་མཛད་པའི་ཏ་ཤེང་ཅི་ཟིན་ལུང་། (ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་དད་པ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་) བརྩམས་ནས་གདོད་མའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་རྣམ་གཞག་དར་། Paramārtha translates the Awakening of Faith attributed to Aśvaghoṣa into Chinese and thereby promotes the concept of original enlightenment.

580 CE

ཏན་ཡན་ནས་ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོ་མོས་པ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་ཀྱི་འགྲེལ་པ་དང་པོ་བརྩམས། དེ་རྗེས་རྒྱ་ནག་ ནི་ཧོང་དང་ ཀོ་རི་ཡ་རྣམས་སུ་འགྲེལ་པ་ ༡༧༠ ལྷག་བརྩམས། Tanyan writes the first commentary on the Awakening of Faith, which was followed by some 170 other commentaries written in China, Japan, and Korea.

c. 760 CE

སློབ་དཔོན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཀྱིས་མན་ངག་ལྟ་ཕྲེང་མཛད་དེ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་རང་བཞིན་རྫོགས་ཆེན་ལྟར་བཀྲལ། Padmasambhava writes Instructions Called Garland of Views and promotes understanding of buddha-nature in the Dzogchen tradition.

792-794 CE

ཆོས་འཁོར་བསམ་ཡས་སུ་སློབ་དཔོན་ཀ་མ་ལ་ཤཱི་ལས་གཙོས་པའི་རྒྱ་གར་གྱི་རིམ་གྱིས་པ་དང་ཧ་ཤང་གིས་གཙོས་པའི་རྒྱ་ནག་གི་གཅིག་ཅར་བ་རྣམས་རྩོད་པ་མཛད། The Great Samye Debate takes place between the Indian gradualists led by the Mādhyamika master Kamalaśīla and Chinese subitists led by Chan monk Heshang Moheyan (or Hashang Mahāyāna).

c. 800 CE

ཡེ་ཤེས་སྡེས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་མདོ་དང་མྱ་ངན་ལས་འདས་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདོ་སོགས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་བསྟན་པའི་མདོ་རྣམས་བོད་སྐད་ཏུ་བསྒྱུར། Yeshe De and others translate major buddha-nature sūtras such as the Tathāgatagarbhasūtra and Mahāparinirvāṇasūtra into Tibetan.

c. 1000 CE

རྙིང་མའི་རྒྱུད་རྣམས་དར་ཞིང་ནང་རྒྱུད་གསུམ་དང་འབྲེལ་བའི་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོའི་བཤད་པ་འཕེལ་རྒྱས་བྱུང་། The Nyingma tantras spread in Tibet and enhanced the formulation of buddha-nature in the context of three inner tantric systems.

By 1040 CE

སྐྱོ་སྟོན་སྨོན་ལམ་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དང་འགོས་ལོ་གཞོན་ནུ་དཔལ་ལྟར་ན། མངའ་བདག་མེེ་ཏྲི་པས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་དང་ཆོས་ཉིད་རྣམ་འབྱེད་ཀྱི་གདམས་པ་གཉིས་མཆོད་རྟེན་ནས་གདན་དྲངས་པར་བཤད། Maitrīpa (986-1063) is said to have discovered the texts/instructions of the Ratnagotravibhāga and Dharmadharmatāvibhāga in a stūpa according to Kyotön Mönlam Tsultrim and Gö Lotsāwa Zhönu Pal.

c. 1045 CE

སཛྫ་ནའི་མེས་པོ་བྲམ་ཟེ་རིན་ཆེན་རྡོ་རྗེ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་པར་འདོད། Ratnavajra, grandfather of Sajjana, is believed to have composed his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum.

c. 1050 CE

ཇོ་བོ་རྗེ་དང་ནག་ཚོ་ལོ་ཙཱ་བ་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་རྒྱལ་བས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་བོད་སྐད་དུ་བསྒྱུར། Atiśa Dīpaṅkara and Naktso Tsultrim Gyelwa translate the Ratnagotravibhāga, or the Ultimate Continuum, into Tibetan in Yerpa, Tibet.

1076 CE

རྔོག་བློ་ལྡན་ཤེས་རབ་དང་བཙན་ཁ་བོ་ཆེ་གཉིས་ཁ་ཆེར་ཕེབས་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མས་གཙོས་པའི་བྱམས་ཆོས་རྣམས་ཞུས། Ngok Loden Sherab and Tsen Khawoche depart for Kashmir where they would receive teachings on the works of Maitreya, including the Ultimate Continuum, from Sajjana.

c. 1080 CE

རོང་ཟོམ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བཟང་པོས་ཆོས་ཐམས་ཅད་རང་བཞིན་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་སུ་བསྟན་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་ཐེག་ཆེན་ཚུལ་འཇུག་སོགས་བརྩམས། Rongzom Chökyi Zangpo writes Entering the Ways of Mahāyāna and other works to propound buddha-nature as the awakened nature of all phenomena.

c. 1085 CE

བཙན་ཁ་བོ་ཆེ་དྲི་མེད་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱིས་གཟུ་དགའ་བའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལོ་ཙཱ་བྱས་ཏེ་པཎྜི་ཏ་སཛྫ་ན་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཆོས་སྐོར་གསན་ནས་བོད་དུ་ཕེབས་ནས་བྱམས་ཆོས་སྒོམ་ལུགས་ཀྱི་འགོ་བཙུགས། Tsen Khawoche Drime Sherab, who received teachings on the Ultimate Continuum from Sajjana with the help of Zu Gawai Dorje as translator, returns to Tibet and teaches the Ultimate Continuum, thereby starting the meditative tradition (སྒོམ་ལུགས་) of the Ultimate Continuum.

By 1092 CE

རྔོག་ལོ་ཙཱ་བས་ཁ་ཆེ་དཔེ་མེད་ཀྱི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དུ་པཎྜི་ཏ་སཛྫ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་བསྒྱུར་ཞིང་སཛྫ་ནས་ཐེག་ཆེན་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་དོན་བསྡུས་པ་མཛད། Ngok Loden Sherab translates the Ultimate Continuum with the help of Sajjana in the town of Anupama in Kashmir. He also composes his commentary Condensed Meaning of the "Ultimate Continuum of the Mahāyāna", and Sajjana writes his instructions on the Ultimate Continuum, the Mahāyānottaratantraśāstropadeśa.

c. 1100 CE

བོད་དུ་དབུ་མ་ཐལ་འགྱུར་པའི་སྲོལ་འབྱེད་པ་ཚབ་ཉི་མ་གྲགས་པ་དང་། བོད་དུ་འཁོར་ལོ་སྡོམ་པ་སྤེལ་བ་གྲགས་པའི་མར་པ་དོ་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབང་ཕྱུག་གིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་བོད་སྐད་དུ་བསྒྱུར། Patsab Lotsāwa Nyima Drakpa, who introduced the Prāsaṅgika Madhyamaka tradition to Tibet, and Marpa Dopa Chökyi Wangchuk, who is known for the transmission of Cakrasaṃvara to Tibet, translate the Ultimate Continuum.

c. 1100 CE

མར་པ་དོ་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབང་ཕྱུག་གིས་རང་གི་བླ་མ་པ་ར་ཧི་ཏའི་དགོངས་པ་ལྟར་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཚིག་དོན་རྣམ་པར་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད། འདི་ཕལ་ཆེར་ནོར་ནས་མར་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་ཀྱིས་ཡིན་པར་འདོད་མཁན་ཡང་ཡོད། Marpa Dopa Chökyi Wangchuk composes his Commentary on the Meaning of the Words of the Uttaratantra according to his teacher Parahita's explanation, although the commentary is perhaps mistakenly attributed to Marpa Chökyi Lodrö.

c. 1100 CE

ཡུ་མོ་བ་མི་བསྐྱོད་རྡོ་རྗེས་གསལ་སྒྲོན་བཞི་སོགས་མཛད་། Yumowa Mikyö Dorje composes his treatises, including the Four Illuminating Lamps.

c. 1130 CE

སྒམ་པོ་པས་འོ་ཅག་གི་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོའི་གཞུང་ནི་རྒྱལ་བ་བྱམས་པའི་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་འདི་ཡིན། ཞེས་གསུངས་པར་ཕྱིས་སུ་རྗེས་འབྲངས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་འདོད། His followers claim that Gampopa declared "the text for our Mahāmudrā is Buddha Maitreya's Ultimate Continuum."

c. 1150 CE

གསང་ཕུའི་གདན་རབས་དྲུག་པ་ཕྱ་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སེང་གེས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་དོན་བསྡུས་དང་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་ནས་རྔོག་ལོའི་བཤད་ལུགས་ཀྱི་བརྒྱུད་པ་འཛིན། Chapa Chökyi Senge, the sixth abbot of Sangpu Neutok, composes his Synopsis of the Mahāyāna Uttaratantra as well as his Extensive Explanation of the Ultimate Continuum and carries on the philosophical legacy of Ngok Loden Sherab.

c. 1150 CE

ལྷོ་བྲག་དྷར་མ་སེང་གེས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ཉི་འོད་གསལ་བ་མཛད། Lhodrak Dharma Senge, for whom we do not have much information, composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum entitled Clear Sun Rays.

c. 1272 CE

འགྲོ་མགོན་ཆོས་རྒྱལ་འཕགས་པས་སེ་ཆེན་རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་བསྡུས་དོན་མཛད། Drogön Chögyal Pakpa writes his Synopsis of the Ultimate Continuum in the palace of Kubilai Khan in China.

c. 1200 CE

རྗེ་བཙུན་གྲགས་པ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱིས་འཕྲིན་ལས་བཟང་པོས་བསྐུལ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཟིན་བྲིས་བྱམས་མགོན་དགོངས་པ་ཕྱིན་ཅི་མ་ལོག་པ་མཛད། Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen composes his Notes on the Ultimate Continuum Entitled The Unmistaken Intent of Maitreya at the request of Thinley Zangpo.

1226 CE

འབྲི་གུང་འཇིག་རྟེན་མགོན་པོ་རིན་ཆེན་དཔལ་གྱི་སློབ་མ་ཤེས་རབ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཀྱིས་དམ་ཆོས་དགོངས་པ་གཅིག་པ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཚིག་བརྒྱ་དང་ལྔ་བཅུ་དང་ལྷན་ཐབས་བཞི་བཅུ་ལྷག་ཡོད་པ་བརྩམས་ཏེ། འབྲི་གུང་པའི་གཞུང་གཙོ་བོ་རུ་གྱུར། Sherab Jungne, the student of Jikten Gönpo Rinchen Pel of Drigung, compiles the Single Intention, containing the 150 vajra statements of his master, thus launching an important classic of the Drigung Kagyu school.

c. 1230 CE

ས་སྐྱ་པཎ་ཆེན་ཀུན་དགའ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནས་སྡོམ་གསུམ་རབ་དབྱེ་མཛད་དེ་བོད་ཀྱི་གཤེགས་སྙིང་འདོད་པ་གཞན་བཀག་ནས་ཆོས་དབྱིངས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོར་བསྟན། Sakya Paṇḍita Kunga Gyaltsen critiques the other theories of buddha-nature and presents buddha-nature as an unchanging sphere of reality in his Distinguishing the Three Vows. He argues that the buddha-nature sūtras teaching innate enlightenment are provisional teachings.

c. 1260 CE

སྣར་ཐང་གི་གདན་རབས་བདུན་པ་མཁས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་མཆིམས་ནམ་མཁའ་གྲགས་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་ཀྱང་། ད་ལྟ་མཇལ་ཡུལ་དུ་མེད། The seventh abbot and great scholar of Nartang, Chim Namkha Drak, composed a commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, but it is not available today.

c. 1270 CE

སྣར་ཐང་གི་གདན་རབས་བརྒྱད་པ་སྐྱོ་སྟོན་སྨོན་ལམ་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་གདམས་པ་སོགས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་ཆོས་སྐོར་རྣམས་བརྩམས་ཏེ་བྱམས་ཆོས་བཙན་ལུགས་ཀྱི་བརྒྱུད་པ་བཟུང་། Kyotön Mönlam Tsultrim, the eighth abbot of Nartang, composes many works on buddha-nature, including his Instructions on "The Ultimate Continuum of the Mahāyāna", and he promotes the meditative tradition from Tsen Khawoche.

c. 1280 CE

སྣར་ཐང་གི་བཀའ་གདམས་ཀྱི་མཁས་པ་བཅོམ་ལྡན་རིག་པའི་རལ་གྲི་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་རྒྱན་གྱི་མེ་ཏོག་དང་བྱམས་ཆོས་བྱུང་ཚུལ་མཛད། Chomden Rikpai Raldri, a learned Kadam scholar of Nartang, writes his exegesis on the Ultimate Continuum entitled Ornamental Flower and also writes his History of Dharma Associated with Maitreya.

c. 1300 CE

གསང་ཕུ་བ་བློ་གྲོས་མཚུངས་མེད་ཀྱིས་བྱམས་ཆོས་སྒོམ་ལུགས་དང་མཐུན་པའི་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ངེས་དོན་གསལ་བ་རིན་པོ་ཆེའི་སྒྲོན་མེ་མཛད། Lodrö Tsungme of Sangpu Neutok composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum entitled The Precious Lamp That Illuminates the Definitive Meaning of the Mahāyāna Uttaratantra Treatise, which is aligned to the interpretation in the meditative tradition.

c. 1300 CE

འགོས་ལོ་གཞོན་ནུ་དཔལ་ལྟར་ན་ཡར་ལུང་ལོ་ཙཱ་བ་གྲགས་པ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་བསྒྱུར། One Yarlung Lotsāwa, according to Gö Lotsāwa Zhönu Pal, is said to have translated the Ultimate Continuum.

ཀརྨ་པ་གསུམ་པ་རང་བྱུང་རྡོ་རྗེ་ནས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་བསྟན་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས། ཆོས་དབྱིངས་བསྟོད་པའི་འགྲེལ་པ་སོགས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་སྐོར་མཛད། The Third Karmapa Rangjung Dorje composes his Treatise on Pointing Out the Tathāgata Heart, a commentary on the Dharmadhātustava, and other writings related to buddha-nature.

ཐོགས་མེད་བཟང་པོ་དང་དོལ་པོ་པའི་བླ་མ་རྟ་ནག་རིན་ཆེན་ཡེ་ཤེས་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མདོ་དང་སྦྱར་བ་ངེས་དོན་སྣང་བ་མཛད་དེ་གཞན་སྟོང་མཚུངས་པའི་དགོངས་པ་བསྟན། Tanak Rinchen Yeshe, who was a teacher of both Tokme Zangpo and Dolpopa, writes his Illumination of the Definitive Meaning: A Commentary on the Uttaratantra in Relation to the Sūtras, which presents a proto-zhentong interpretation.

By 1333 CE

དོལ་པོ་པ་ཤེས་རབ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནས་གཞུང་གི་གཙོ་བོ་རི་ཆོས་ངེས་དོན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པའི་མན་ངག་སོགས་མཛད་དེ། བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་གློ་བུར་སྒྲིབ་མས་སྟོང་ཡང་རང་གི་ངོ་བོས་མི་སྟོང་པར་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་རང་ཆས་སུ་ཡོད་པའི་གཞན་སྟོང་དབུ་མའི་སྲོལ་རྒྱས་པར་ཕྱེ་ནས་ཇོ་མོ་ནང་མའི་ཚུལ་དར། Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen writes his tour de force Mountain Doctrine and many other works, and he spreads the Jonang tradition and expounds the philosophy of zhentong, or "other-emptiness," in which conventional phenomena are empty of self-existence and buddha-nature is the ultimate absolute reality endowed with all qualities of the Buddha.

ཀློང་ཆེན་པ་དྲི་མེད་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་མཛོད་བདུན་དང་རང་གྲོལ་སྐོར་གསུམ་སོགས་མཛད་ནས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་སེམས་ཀྱི་གནས་ལུགས་གསལ་སྟོང་གི་ཚུལ་དེ་བསྟན། Longchenpa Drime Õzer composes his Seven Treasures, Trilogy of Relaxation, and Trilogy of Liberation, in which he presents buddha-nature as the empty luminous nature of the mind.

c. 1350 CE

ས་བཟང་མ་ཊི་པཎ་ཆེན་བློ་གྲོས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྱུར་ལེགས་བཅོས་མཛད་ཅིང་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་རྣམ་བཤད་ངེས་དོན་རབ་གསལ་སྣང་བ་བརྩམས། Sabzang Mati Paṇchen Lodrö Gyaltsen improves the Tibetan translation of the Ultimate Continuum and writes his long and clear exposition Illuminating the Definitive Meaning: An Explanation of the Ultimate Continuum.

c. 1350 CE

དོལ་པོ་པའི་སློབ་མ་ཞང་སྟོན་བསོད་ནམས་གྲགས་པས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་བཀའ་འཁོར་ལོ་ཐ་མའི་གསལ་བྱེད་བརྩམས་ཏེ་བཀའ་འཁོར་ལོ་མཐའ་མ་ངེས་དོན་ཡིན་པར་བསྟན། Zhangtön Sönam Drakpa, a student of Dolpopa, writes his Commentary on the Ultimate Continuum Clarifying the Last Wheel of Teachings, highlighting how the third turning is a definitive teaching.

c. 1350 CE

དངུལ་ཆུ་ཐོགས་མེད་བཟང་པོས་ཨེ་ལྷ་ཁང་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ངེས་དོན་གསལ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་འོད་ཟེར་མཛད། Gyalse Tokme Zangpo writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Illuminating the Definitive Meaning, in E temple.

1359 CE

བུ་སྟོན་རིན་ཆེན་གྲུབ་ནས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་གསལ་བའི་རྒྱན་བརྩམས་ནས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་བསྟན་པའི་མདོ་རྣམས་དྲང་དོན་དུ་བསྟན། Butön Rinchen Drup writes his Ornament That Illuminates and Beautifies the Tathāgata Heart and underscores that the buddha-nature teachings are expedient provisional teachings and not to be taken literally.

c. 1360 CE

རྗེ་ཙོང་ཁ་པའི་བླ་མ་ཆོས་རྗེ་དོན་གྲུབ་རིན་ཆེན་གྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་འགྲེལ་པ་རིན་པོ་ཆེའི་སྣང་བ་མཛད་ཅིང་། གཤེགས་སྙིང་གི་གོ་བའི་ཐད་འདོད་པ་འགའ་བཀག་ཅིང་། བཀག་པ་དེ་འདྲ་བ་ཕྱིས་སུ་དགེ་ལུགས་ནས་འཛིན་པར་སྣང་། Dondrup Rinchen, the first teacher of Tsongkhapa, composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum called Precious Light, in which he refutes certain interpretations of buddha-nature which were later adopted by the Geluk tradition.

1366 CE

བླ་མ་དམ་བསོད་ནམ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱིས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་ཡི་གེ་པ་བྱས་ཏེ། རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་དགོངས་པ་ངེས་གསལ་ས་བཅད་དང་བཅས་པ་མཛད་ཅིང་། ཕྱིས་སུ་ས་བཅད་ལོགས་སུ་ཕྱུང་ཡོད་ཅིང་། ས་པཎ་གྱི་དགོངས་པ་དང་མ་མཐུན་པ་ཡང་གསུངས་། Lama Dampa Sönam Gyaltsen composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum entitled Definitive Clarification of the Intent, with Gyeltsen Zangpo as scribe. A Synopsis containing a topical outline was also extracted later. He presents an interpretation different from the position of Sapaṇ.

c. 1380 CE

ཀརྨ་པ་རོལ་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་དང་དོན་ཞགས་སམ་མ་སེ་སྟོན་པ་རིན་ཆེན་བཟང་པོའི་སློབ་མ་མི་ཉག་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཡིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་ནས་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་ལྟ་བ་བསྟན། Yeshe Dorje from Minyak, a student of 4th Karmapa Rolpai Dorje and Donzhak (Mase Tönpa Rinchen Zangpo), writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, A Treasury of Gems of the Definitive Meaning, highlighting the zhentong view.

c. 1385 CE

བོད་དུ་དབུ་མའི་བཀའ་བབ་རེད་མདའ་བ་གཞོན་ནུ་བློ་གྲོས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་བསྡུས་དོན་དང་དུས་འཁོར་སྤྱི་དོན་སོགས་མཛད། Rendawa Zhönu Lodrö, the great promoter of Mādhyamaka in Tibet, composes his Summary of the Ultimate Continuum and The Jewel Lamp Illuminating the Definitive Meaning of the Glorious Kālacakra, highlighting the rangtong understanding, although Gö Lotsāwa claims that he later changed his approach.

1390 CE

གྷ་རུང་པ་ལྷའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནས་ནམ་མཁའ་མཛོད་ཀྱི་དབེན་གནས་སུ་དོལ་པོ་པའི་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་དགོངས་པ་དང་ས་བཟང་གི་ས་བཅད་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཊཱིཀཱ་དེ་ཉིད་སྣང་བ་མཛད། Gharungpa Lhai Gyaltsen writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Illumination of Reality, in Namkha Dzod hermitage following Dolpopa's zhentong tradition and Sabzang's outline.

c. 1390 CE

བཀའ་གདམས་པའི་བཤེས་གཉེན་དགེ་འདུན་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་རྣམ་བཤད་དོན་དམ་རྣམ་ངེས་བསྡུས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་སྙིང་པོ་མཛད་དེ་རིགས་པ་དང་གྲངས་ངེས་སོགས་བསྟན་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་བོད་འགྲེལ་ཚིག་མང་ལས་ལྷག་པར་འདོད་ཅིང་རྔོག་ལོའི་འགྱུར་མ་ཚད་པ་ཚབ་དང་ནག་ཚོའི་འགྱུར་ལ་ཡང་བརྟེན་ནས་བརྩམས། Gendun Özer, a Kadampa master who is difficult to date, composes his outline and commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Quintessential Essence of the Condensed Ultimate Definitive Meaning, claiming it to be different from the wordy commentaries from the past and presenting logical arguments, direct explanation, enumeration, etc., as requested by his students in central Tibet. He uses Ngok's translation but refers to Naktso and Patsap's translations also.

c. 1400 CE

རོང་སྟོན་ཤེས་བྱ་ཀུན་རིག་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ལེགས་པར་བཤད་པ་དང་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་སྒོམ་རིམ་མི་ཕམ་དགོངས་རྒྱན་བརྩམས། Rongtön Sheja Kunrik writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum called Elegant Explanation and composes a practice manual for the Ultimate Continuum called Ornament of Maitreya's Intent.

1401 CE

རྗེ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་བློ་བཟང་གྲགས་པས་སྤྱི་ལོ་ ༡༤༠༩ ་ལ་གདན་ས་དགའ་ལྡན་ཕྱག་བཏབ་ཅིང་ལམ་རིམ་ཆེན་པོས་གཙོས་པའི་གཤེགས་སྙིང་དང་འབྲེལ་བའི་གཞུང་གཞན་རྣམས་རིམ་པར་བརྩམས། Tsongkhapa Lobzang Drakpa, who founded Ganden monastery in 1409, writes his Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment followed by other works which initiated the Geluk understanding of buddha-nature.

c. 1420 CE

རྒྱལ་ཚབ་དར་མ་རིན་ཆེན་གྱིས་རྗེ་ཙོང་ཁ་པ་དང་རེད་མདའ་བ་གཉིས་ཀ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་ཞུས་ནས་གུང་རུ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་བཟང་པོས་བསྐུལ་བ་བཞིན་གནས་རྙིང་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཊཱི་ཀཱ་མཛད་དེ། ཕྱིས་སུ་དགེ་ལུགས་པའི་གཤེགས་སྙིང་གི་དགོངས་པའི་གཞི་རུ་གྱུར། Gyaltsap Darma Rinchen, who received teachings on the Ultimate Continuum from both Rendawa and Tsongkhapa, writes his Commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, which came to influence the subsequent Gelukpa understanding of buddha-nature and its interpretation of the Ultimate Continuum. The commentary was written at Nenying at the request of Gungru Gyaltsen Zangpo.

c. 1425 CE

ཇོ་ནང་ལོ་ཙཱ་བ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་འགྱུར་ལེགས་བཅོས་མཛད། Jonang Lotsāwa improves the translation of the Ultimate Continuum.

By 1450 CE

བོ་དོང་པཎ་ཆེན་ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་གྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་དེ་དགོངས་པ་ཐུན་མོང་མ་ཡིན་པ་རེ་གསུངས། Bodong Paṇchen Chokle Namgyal writes his Commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, A Great Treatise Connecting Sūtra and Mantra and presents an interesting interpretation.

1455 CE

དགའ་ལྡན་ཁྲི་པ་བདུན་པ་བློ་གྲོས་བརྟན་པས་རྒྱལ་ཚབ་རྗེའི་དགོངས་པ་དང་མཐུན་པར་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད། The 7th Ganden Tripa Lodrö Tenpa writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Ornament of Buddha-Nature, following the interpretation of buddha-nature by his master Gyaltsap Je.

1473 CE

ལོ་རྒྱུས་སྨྲ་བ་འགོས་ལོ་ཙཱ་བ་གཞོན་ནུ་དཔལ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་རྒྱས་པ་མཛད། Gö Lotsāwa Zhönu Pal, the famous historian, dictates his extensive commentary on the Ultimate Continuum entitled The Mirror Showing Reality Very Clearly in Mondang.

1474 CE

ཤཱཀྱ་མཆོག་ལྡན་ནས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་སྙིང་པོའི་རྣམ་བཤད་མདོ་རྒྱུད་སྙིང་པོ་ལ་སོགས་པ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་སྐོར་མང་དུ་བརྩམས་ཏེ་སེམས་ཅན་ལ་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་དངོས་མེད་པར་བསྟན། Śākya Chokden composes his Explanation of Buddhagarbha: An Essence of Sūtra and Tantra and other works on buddha-nature, highlighting his position that real buddha-nature does not exist in sentient beings.

1539 CE

ཀམ་ཚང་པའི་མཁས་པ་བདུད་མོ་བ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་རང་བྱུང་རྡོ་རྗེའི་བསྡུས་དོན་དང་མཐུན་པར་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད། The Karma Kagyu scholar Dumowa Tashi Özer, a student of the 7th Karmapa, writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Heart of the Luminous Sun, integrating the points from the 3rd Karmapa Rangjung Dorje's synopsis.

1540 CE

འབྲས་སྤུངས་ཀྱི་ཡིག་ཆ་མཁན་པོ་པཎ་ཆེན་བསོད་ནམས་གྲགས་པས་དགའ་ལྡན་ཟུར་ཁང་དུ་རྒྱལ་ཚབ་རྗེའི་ཊཱི་ཀཱ་དང་མཐུན་པའི་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཊཱི་ཀཱ་གནད་ཀྱི་ཟླ་འོད་མཛད། Paṇchen Sönam Drakpa, the main author studied in Drepung Loseling, composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum called The Moonlight of the Crucial Points based on Gyaltsap Je's commentary at Gaden Zurkhang.

c. 1550 CE

ཀརྨ་པ་མི་བསྐྱེད་རྡོ་རྗེས་དབུ་མ་གཞན་སྟོང་སྨྲ་བའི་སྲོལ་ལེགས་པར་ཕྱེ་བའི་སྒྲོན་མེ་སོགས་མཛད་དེ་དབྱིངས་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་ཚུལ་གསུངས། The Eighth Karmapa Mikyö Dorje writes his The Lamp That Excellently Elucidates the System of the Proponents of the Other-Emptiness Madhyamaka and other works and highlights the understanding of "expanse zhentong."

c. 1615 CE

ཏཱ་ར་ནཱ་ཐས་ཐེག་མཆོག་ཤིན་ཏུ་རྒྱས་པའི་དབུ་མ་ཆེན་པོ་རྣམ་པར་ངེས་པས་གཙོས་པའི་གཞུང་དུ་མ་མཛད་ནས་ཇོ་ནང་པའི་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་ཚུལ་གསལ་བར་མཛད། Tāranātha writes many works, including his masterpiece, Thoroughly Ascertaining the Great Middle Way of the Expansive Supreme Vehicle, and champions the zhentong philosophy of the Jonang tradition.

c. 1620 CE

སྟག་ལུང་ཆོས་རྗེ་ཞེས་པ་སྟག་ལུང་ཞབས་དྲུང་ངག་དབང་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་ཡིན་ནམ་མི་ཤེས་ཏེ། རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་ནས་བོད་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་ལ་དགག་པ་མཛད། One Taklung Chöje, perhaps Taklung Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, in which he refutes various Tibetan interpretations.

c. 1670 CE

འབྲུག་པ་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་ཀྱི་བླ་མ་རྩེ་ལེ་སྣ་ཚོགས་རང་གྲོལ་ནས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་དང་ཆོས་ཉིད་ཞེས་པ། དབུ་མ་དང་ཕྱག་ཆེན་རྫོགས་ཆེན་དང་སྦྱར་ཞིང་ཉམས་ལེན་དང་འབྲེལ་ནས་བཤད་པ་མཛད། Tsele Natsok Rangdrol, a Drukpa Kagyu master, writes his Vajra Convergence, a treatise on understanding buddha-nature and ultimate reality in the context of Madhyamaka, Mahāmudrā, and Dzogchen, particularly relating it to practical application.

c. 1730 CE

ཅོ་ནེ་གྲགས་པ་བཤད་སྒྲུབ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་དོན་གྱི་སྙིང་པོ་གསལ་བྱེད་སྣང་བ་ཆེན་པོ་མཛད། Chone Drakpa Shedrup composes his Uttaratantra commentary called The Great Light Which Illuminates the Essence of the Ultimate Continuum.

c. 1820 CE

གསང་ཆེན་རྙིང་མ་ཀཿ་ཐོག་པ་དགེ་རྩེ་པཎྜི་ཏ་འགྱུར་མེད་ཚེ་དབང་མཆོག་གྲུབ་ནས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་དང་དབུ་མའི་སྐོར་མཛད་ནས་གཞན་སྟོང་རྩལ་དུ་བཏོན། Getse Mahāpaṇḍita Tsewang Chokdrup, a leading Nyingma master from Kaḥthog monastery, writes his exegesis on buddha-nature and the Great Middle Way entitled Ornament of Sugatagarbha, highlighting the validity of zhentong.

c. 1851 CE

རྫ་དཔལ་སྤྲུལ་རིན་པ་ཆེ་ནས་ཛམ་ཐང་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ས་བཅད་མཛད། The itinerant monk scholar Dza Patrul Rinpoche composes his Topical Outline of the Ultimate Continuum in Zamthang monastery.

c. 1880 CE

རིས་མེད་བསྟན་པའི་བདག་པོ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོས་གཞན་སྟོང་དབུ་མའི་རྣམ་གཞག་སྙིང་པོར་དྲིལ་བ་མཛད། Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, a leading rime master, writes his quintessential presentation of the zhentong philosophy in the Jonang tradition entitled A Concise Presentation of Other-Emptiness Madhyamaka.

By 1899 CE

ཀོང་སྤྲུལ་བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ཕྱིར་མི་ལྡོག་པ་སེངྒེའི་ང་རོ་དང་གཞན་སྟོང་དབུ་མའི་ལྟ་ཁྲིད་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཟླ་བ་དྲི་མ་མེད་པའི་འོད་ཟེར་སོགས་མཛད། Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Taye writes his experiential commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, in which he presents the understanding of other-emptiness.

1891 CE

མི་ཕམ་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་རྒྱ་མཚོས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོའི་སྟོང་ཐུན་སེང་གེའི་ང་རོ་མཛད་དེ་གསལ་སྟོང་ཟུང་འཇུག་གི་ཚུལ་རྩལ་དུ་བཏོན་ཅིང་། རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་ཕྱག་ཟིན་གནང་བ་རྣམས་སྤྱི་ལོ་ ༡༩༢༥ ་ལ་སློབ་མ་འགའ་ནས་མཆན་འགྲེལ་གྱི་ཚུལ་དུ་བསྒྲིགས། Mipam Namgyal Gyatso, the 19th-century Nyingma polymath, writes his exegesis on buddha-nature called Lion's Roar and underscores his understanding of buddha-nature as a union of emptiness and luminosity. He also makes an annotated commentary to the Ultimate Continuum, which his students compiled in 1925.

c. 1900 CE

གཞན་ཕན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྣང་བས་རྒྱ་འགྲེལ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་གཞུང་ཆེན་བཅུ་གསུམ་གྱི་འགྲེལ་པ་མཛད་ཅིང་བཤད་གྲྭ་རྣམས་སུ་རྩ་གཞུང་གི་ཚུལ་དུ་བཟུང་། Khenpo Zhenpen Chokyi Nangwa, also known as Zhenga, composes his Interlinear Commentary on the Mahāyāna Uttaratantra Treatise as part of the thirteen great treatises, which came to be widely used in shedra curricula.

c. 1910 CE

བྲག་དཀར་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་དཔལ་ལྡན་བསྟན་འཛིན་སྙན་གྲགས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་དང་རང་སྟོང་དང་་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་ཁྱད་པར་སོགས་མཛད། Drakar Lobzang Palden Tendzin Nyendrak writes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Offering Clouds to Delight Our Protector Maitreya, following Gyaltsap Je's interpretation and also his work on zhentong on behalf of some monks of Zamtang.

ཛམ་ཐང་གི་ངག་དབང་ཚོགས་གཉིས་རྒྱ་མཚོས་གཤེགས་སྙིང་དང་གཞན་སྟོང་དབུ་མའི་ཕྱོགས་བསྒྲིགས་མཛད། འོན་ཀྱང་མཁས་པ་མའི་ཁེལ་ཤི་ཧི་ནས་ཁོང་གི་གཞང་སྟོང་ཡངས་ཤིང་རན་པ་ཡིན་པར་འདོད། Ngawang Tsoknyi Gyatso, a Jonang scholar of Zamtang monastery, writes his treatises on buddha-nature explaining the zhentong tradition of Dolpopa, although Michael Sheehy considers his understanding lenient and mild zhentong.

1931 CE

ཡུ་རྒྱན་ཨོ་བར་མི་ལར་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་དང་རྒྱུད་བླ་ཐོགས་འགྲེལ་དབྱིན་སྐད་དུ་ཐོག་མར་བསྒྱུར། Eugène Obermiller translates the Ultimate Continuum for the first time into English in his The Sublime Science of the Great Vehicle to Salvation, Being a Manual of Buddhist Monism: The Work of Ārya Maitreya with a Commentary by Āryāsanga.

1965 CE

ཛམ་ཐང་པ་ངག་དབང་བློ་གྲོས་གྲགས་པ་ནས་དབུ་མ་གཞན་སྟོང་གདོང་ལྔའི་ང་རོ་མཛད། འདི་དང་དོལ་པོ་པའི་རི་ཆོས་དང་ཏཱ་ར་ནཱ་ཐའི་ཐེག་མཆོག་དབུ་མ་ཆེན་པོ་གསུམ་གཞན་སྟོང་གི་གཞུང་གཙོ་བོར་གྱུར། Ngawang Lodrö Drakpa writes his Fearless Lion's Roar, also known as the Great Zhentong Which Highlights the Zhentong Tradition of Jonang. The book came to be a classic on zhentong alongside Dolpopa's Mountain Doctrine and Tāranātha's Thoroughly Ascertaining the Great Middle Way of the Expansive Supreme Vehicle.

1969 CE

དེ་བིཊ་སེ་ཕོརཊ་རུ་ཝེག་ནས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་རྣམ་བཞག་ཅེས་པའི་བསྟན་བཅོས་ཕ་རན་སི་སྐད་ཐོག་དུ་བརྩམས་ནས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་སྐོར་ཞིབ་བཤད་དང་དཔྱད་པ་མཛད། David Seyfort Ruegg articulates and analyzes the theories on buddha-nature in his La théorie du tathagatagarbha et du gotra: Études sur la sotériologie et la gnoséologie du Bouddhisme.

c. 1970 CE

ཉི་ཧོང་གི་མཁས་པ་ཇི་ཀི་དོ་ཏ་ཀ་ས་ཀི་ནས་རྒྱ་དཀར་ནག་ཏུ་དར་བའི་ནང་བསྟན་དུ་ཡོད་པའི་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིན་པོའི་རྣམ་བཞག་སྐོར་དཔེ་དེབ་མང་དུ་བརྩམས། Jikido Takasaki, a Japanese scholar, wrote many works on the theory of buddha-nature in the Indo-Chinese Buddhist tradition.

1975 CE

བྱང་རྩེ་མཁན་ཟུར་བསོད་ནམས་ཀུན་དགའ་ནས་ཝ་ར་ན་སིར་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་སྙིང་པོའི་དོན་རྒྱ་བོད་ཀྱི་མཁས་པའི་བཞེད་སྲོལ་མ་འདྲེས་པར་གསལ་བར་བྱེད་པའི་ཟླ་གཞོན་མཛད། Jangtse Khenzur Sönam Kunga finishes his compilation of the various Tibetan philosophical understandings and interpretations of buddha-nature in Sarnath entitled Moon that Illuminates the Indian and Tibetan Interpretations of Buddha Nature.

1983 CE

འབྲུག་གི་རྗེ་མཁན་པོ་དགེ་འདུན་རིན་ཆེན་ནས་ཕ་ཇོ་སྡིང་དུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་རེན་ཆེན་སྒྲོན་མེ་མཛད། The 69th Je Khenpo Gendun Rinchen composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum called The Precious Lamp in Phajoding.

c. 1990 CE

དམུ་དགེ་བསམ་གཏན་རྒྱ་མཚོས་བློ་བཟང་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ནས་བསྐུལ་བ་བཞིང་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཡར་རྒྱས་མཛད་ཀྱང་སྙུན་གཞིས་མཇུག་མ་རྫོགས་པར་ལུས། Muge Samten Gyatso composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, Flourishing of the Buddha's Teachings, as requested by one Lobzang Tashi, but the commentary is incomplete due to his illness.

c. 1990 CE

ཉི་ཧོང་རྒྱལ་ཁབ་ཏུ་ སྤྱི་ལོ་ ༡༩༩༠ ་སྐོར་ལ་ཟན་སོ་ཏོའི་ཆོས་བརྒྱུད་བཟུང་པའི་མཁས་པ་ཧ་ཀ་ཡ་མ་ནོ་རི་ཡ་ཀི་དང་མ་ཚུ་མོ་ཏོ་ཤི་རོ་གཉིས་ནས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོའི་རྣམ་བཞག་ནང་པ་སངས་རྒྱས་པའི་ཆོས་ཚུལ་མིན་པའི་སྐོར་དགག་མཛད་ནས་རྩོད་གླེང་རྒྱ་ཆེར་བྱུང་། Around 1990, the Soto Zen scholars Hakayama Noriaki and Matsumoto Shiro critiqued the buddha-nature concept as non-Buddhist, which led to debates.

1992 CE

ཅན་ཚའི་བླ་མ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱ་མཚོས་རྒྱལ་ཚབ་རྗེའི་དགོངས་པ་གཞིར་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་་བསྡུས་དོན་རིན་ཆེན་སྒྲོན་མེ་བརྩམས། The Gelukpa scholar Je Yeshe Gyatso of Chentsa Mani temple in Qinghai wrote his Synopsis of the Ultimate Continuum Entitled Precious Lamp following Gyaltsap Je's interpretation.

2002 CE

ཁྲོ་རུ་ཚེ་རྣམ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་འགྲེལ་པ་རིགས་ཁམས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོའི་མེ་ལོང་མཛད། Troru Tsenam completes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum, The Mirror of the Element Buddha-Nature, which is based on the transcription of his lectures.

2006 CE

ཀ་ཛོ་ཀ་ནོ་ནས་འབུམ་རམས་པའི་ཞིབ་འཇུག་རྩོམ་ཡིག་རྔོག་ལོ་བློ་ལྡན་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་བསྡུས་དོན་ཐོག་གནང་ནས་རྩོམ་ཡིག་མཛད་པ་ཕྱིས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་དང་སྟོང་ཉིད་ཅེས་པའི་དཔེ་དེབ་བསྐྲུན། Kazuo Kano completes his dissertation titled "rNgog Blo-ldan-shes-rab's Summary of the Ratnagotravibhāga: The First Tibetan Commentary on a Crucial Source for the Buddha-Nature Doctrine" at the University of Hamburg. Later published as Buddha-Nature and Emptiness.

2008 CE

འབྲི་གུང་ཆེ་ཚང་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་དཀོན་མཆོག་བསྟན་འཛིན་འཕྲིན་ལས་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ནས་རྒྱུད་བླ་མའི་མཆན་འགྲེལ་ཐོགས་མེད་ཞལ་ལུང་མཛད། The 7th Drikung Chetsang, Konchog Tenzin Kunsang Thrinle Lhundrup, composes his commentary on the Ultimate Continuum entitled Words of Asaṅga.

2007 CE

དགེ་བཤེས་ཐུབ་བསྟན་སྦྱིན་པས་བོད་ཀྱི་གཙུག་ལག་ཞིབ་དཔྱོད་ཁང་ནས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ཆོས་སྐོར་དཔར་བསྐྲུན་མཛད། Geshe Thubten Jinpa and Institute of Tibetan Classics publishes Treatises on the Buddha-Nature, a collection that includes a history of buddha-nature theory in Tibet by Thupten Jinpa and seven texts influential in the development of buddha-nature teachings in Tibet.

2014 CE

ཀརལ་བྲུན་ཧོ་ཟལ་ནས་གཞན་སྟོང་གཙོ་བོར་བྱས་པའི་གཤེགས་སྙིང་དང་འབྲེལ་བའི་རྩོམ་གཞུང་མང་པོ་བོད་སྐད་ནས་དབྱིན་སྐད་ཐོག་ཏུ་ཕབ་ནས་སྤྲིན་པ་བྲལ་དུས་ཞེས་པའི་གཞུང་མཛད། Karl Brunnholzl produces his tour de force on buddha-nature When the Clouds Part: The Uttaratantra and Its Meditative Tradition as a Bridge between Sutra and Tantra and highlights the zhentong tradition.

2017 CE

ཚེ་རིང་དབང་ཕྱུག་ནས་གངས་ཅན་ལྗོངས་སུ་རྒྱུད་བླ་མ་ཞེས་པའི་བོད་དུ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་དང་འབྲེལ་པའི་ལོ་རྒྱུས་འབུམ་རམས་པའི་ཞིབ་འཇུག་རྩོམ་ཡིག་བརྩམས། Tsering Wangchuk publishes his historical account of buddha-nature scholarship in Tibet entitled The Uttaratantra in the Land of Snows: Tibetan Thinkers Debate the Centrality of the Buddha-Nature Treatise.

2019 CE

ཙཱ་འདྲ་ཚོགས་པས་འགོ་འདྲེན་ཐོག་རྒྱལ་ས་ཝིན་ལ་ཨེ་ཤི་ཡའི་ཡུལ་གྲུ་ལ་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་ཞེས་པའི་ གཤེགས་སྙིང་གི་སྐོར་ལ་མཁས་པའི་བགྲོ་གླེང་བཙུགས། Tathāgatagarbha Across Asia, a symposium in Vienna among academics and scholars, was held.

2021 CE

ཙཱ་འདྲ་ཚོགས་པ་ནས་བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོའི་ཆོས་མཛོད་སྒོ་འབྱེད་མཛད་ཅིང་། བདེ་གཤེགས་སྙིང་པོ་ཐད་རྒྱལ་སྤྱིའི་མཁས་པ་དང་ཉམས་ལེན་པ་གདན་དྲངས་ནས་གྲོས་མུལ་ཟླ་རིམ་བཞིན་དུ་བཙུགས། Tsadra Foundation's web resource on buddha-nature launches followed by a series of monthly discussions called Conversations on Buddha-Nature.
